The ecologically significant 34 km wide Palakkad Gap bordered with densely forested Vadamala (Northern Mountain) and Thenmala (Southern Mountain) is a fault zone region of the Western Ghats- the UNESCO has recognized this region as an important sensitive Bio- diversity ‘Hot Spot” region of the world is endowed with immense natural beauty and has a rich wealth of medicinal flora and fauna. The source region of Kerala’s largest river Bharathapuzha, that is also known as the Chulliyum Peraru and the Nilanadi originates from the Anaimalai hills of western Ghat with two major tributaries of the Gayathripuzha and the Amaravathi/ Chittur puzha act as the artery of this region which adds water to the tributaries gives echo friendly beautiful sceneries.
